If you need (or want) to get something done, yet you feel some drag, some resistance, about actually doing it, one thing you can do is to ask yourself: how can I make this task more enjoyable?

TL;DR: Make it fun. Pair an onerous task, or something you’re dreading, or have been avoiding, with something that you truly enjoy.

I got this idea from Jessica McCabe’s book How to ADHD—she also has a really fabulous YouTube channel you should definitely check out.

This idea of reducing resistance by making a task more enjoyable came up for me this morning—I’ve had an off-week with motivating myself to work out, and yet I feel so much better, healthier, and energized when I do, so I knew I definitely wanted to make time to exercise this morning. I set up my laptop (I’m way more likely to work out if I don’t have to leave the house to do it) and fired up Masterclass, thinking I would multitask and learn while I exercised! But at about 30 seconds into Cal Newport’s Masterclass on Slow Productivity, which I actually am jazzed about watching (eventually), I felt crash-y and unmotivated. I felt less like I wanted to work out and more like I wanted to crawl back into bed (perhaps a pitfall of working out ten feet from the place I sleep).

I thought to myself, how can I enjoy this more? I clicked over to Youtube and typed in Handsome and the snappy repartee of my three favorite comedians was enough to get me through not only my workout but also my PT exercises!

So, how can you make it fun? Whatever your ‘it’ happens to be?
