I’m going to say right up front that this is a limited-use strategy. But, used right and used sparingly, it does work.
If you’re feeling behind on work, or overwhelmed, one way forward is to simply give yourself back some time that you would not otherwise have. There are various ways you can do this:

Set your alarm and wake up two hours earlier than you normally would.
Cancel a class or standing appointment.
Wake up in the middle of the night, work for a few hours, and then go back to sleep. (I said it was limited use!)
Delegate one task for a set period of time (e.g., don’t cook dinner for one week—someone else is cooking, you’re ordering out, or sandwiches and cereal it is!)

Now, it would not be wise to live like this. If you find yourself reaching for one of these solutions more than once every few weeks, it’s likely that you’ve overextended yourself and you need to cut back on some commitments. But, in a particularly busy season of your life, these little time hacks might get you out of a jam.
